In just a few short weeks, the asterisk administration of Joe Biden has decided to send forty billion dollars to Ukraine and to send hundreds of US forces back into Somalia, reversing the withdrawal of the same by Donald Trump.
The timing of these decisions could not be worse. The United States is facing renewed shortages (notably of baby formula) and a recession is likely to be declared in the coming months, considering Q1 economic growth went sharply and unexpectedly negative; a likely foreshock of what is to come; namely, a retro-70s Carter-esque stagflation cycle which I have predicted is likely to erode employment. As a political pragmatist I ask simply, why? Why does the administration continue to peddle policies and ideas which are doomed to be endlessly panned and ridiculed by anyone possessing a modicum of common sense? Why send humanitarian aid (likely to be embezzled by both Ukrainian and US congressional figures) to Kiev when there are millions of Americans facing food scarcity and poverty? Why send hundreds of US troops to Somalia when their absence for a year did not apparently embolden Al Shabab? Wouldn't it be better to send hundreds of personnel to the currently dysfunctional US border?
That all of these poor decisions are being made in the lead-up to the midterm election is insane- insane because the Democratic Party seems to support these various moves, even though they are taking a toll on an already beleaguered party which is now looking towards an election they are effectively certain to be decimated in. If the Democratic Party "only" loses thirty house seats in the midterm elections, they will pat one another on the backs and breathe a sigh of relief; and the only way that outcome is likely to happen is if their opponents across the aisle abandon issues they are winning on- such as inflation, the border, and crime, and choose to myopically focus on abortion or something else which could energize at least the further-left component of the Democratic Party.
Joe Biden is even suggesting that his oft-proposed increased taxation of the wealthy would reduce inflation; a proposal so starkly wrong and so opposite economic reality that I have seen his fellow liberals balk and refuse to discuss the idea, having no defense to make for it.
I am not a Republican. I am not a conservative. I wish that the Democratic party would return to some semblance of sanity so that future elections will not become what the midterms have so far trended towards; a no-choice election in which the GOP, flawed as it is, is the only choice which exists.
You are quite correct Tarl. It's important to look at the Democrats as a complete package. The abortion "issue" has been trotted out right on time so they can make political hay with it. Casting scorn on the court and allowing the media to portray this as a partisan issue. The collapse of our three branches of government is at hand, and the public is being blinded by manipulation at the hands of this corrupt party (which is controlled by the interests of the CCP). Many on the left imagine that the Democrats actually care about them when in fact they are spineless, morally corrupt sycophants. It will take courage for some on the left to face some actual facts. The Republicans are far from perfect - indeed there are too many RINOs - but the Dems are pushing nothing less than communism - lockdowns, open borders, taking away your guns, creating 'hate speech' out of thin air etc. Loads of fun this.
The Democrat priorities are the same as they've always been: The Democrats ARE the Democrats' priority. The Ukraine funding is money laundering (That's why both parties wanted it- they all got a piece), and the Somalia intervention is because the military industrial complex has nothing to play with now, so lobbyists paid visits to Dems, with little envelopes labeled "for your re-election fund"...
