Scuttlebutt has it that law enforcement is already preparing for Tuesday, as the likely conclusion of Alvin Braggs' Manhattan witch hunt approaches. Or maybe not. We have literally no clue. That witch hunt is effectively a spin-off of a failed federal-level effort to prosecute Trump over the same issue- one that dates back to 2021. The allegation is that hush money paid to Stormy Daniels was miscategorized by Donald Trump as legal expenses- effectively, business fraud.
That Alvin Bragg is a deeply partisan figure backed in part by George Soros cash and that some sources are speculating an upgrade for the usually-misdemeanor charge to a felony are fairly important here.
It is hard to say whether Trump will actually be indicted at all, let alone be arrested on Tuesday- he apparently believes that he will- but what is not hard to say is the result of such an indictment.
First, that over two centuries of precedent have been abandoned on a charge that is negligibly even a felony, despite the DOJ refusing to go forth with the same charge on the federal level.
Second, that a third of the nation will be gleeful and see it as a sign that, this time, after so many failed legal attempts, they finally "got Trump."
And finally, that another third of the nation will see it as a disgraceful sham (I am amenable to this position myself) and evidence of corruption on a monumental scale.
It's hard to see how this helps literally anyone in the United States other than clout-chasers and fear-porn peddlers on the internet.
A distraction from the revelations coming out about the Bidens? An attempt to finally get MAGA folks to react with violence?
Agreed 100% ...and I would like to add that you are an excellent writer. Thanks Tarl!
