Youtube Has Devolved into an Echo Chamber
Their algorithms prevent users from finding new content... unless it is whitelisted by Youtube!
Youtube has fallen on some hard times. It is embattled on one side by new tech which does not censor users, and on the other side by Tiktok gobbling up the under-20 demographic. But perhaps Youtubes biggest enemy is its own ever-shifting algorithms, by which it attempts to force two kinds of content down users’ throats; content from creators they already subscribe to or view regularly, and content from priority channels; a term Youtube uses for explicitly whitelisted content, usually innocuous, dumbed down, and bland; this has harmed independent users who do news commentary the most since news becomes stale within only a day or so, and every juicy topic gets drowned in a sea of legacy media crap.
The funny part is that Youtubes policies have contributed mainly to ideological echo chambers; unhealthy systems which tend to cause extremism and purity spiraling.
Down below I show a couple examples of Youtubes’ related content being off-the-wall and pants-on-head insane. There is literally no mathematical justification for what you are about to see.
If you search for mainstream musical content, you get mainstream musical related results (except for the inclusion of live streams by those you are subscribed to- in my case, JLP and Nithyananda.) That makes sense.
If you search for mainstream news content, you get mainstream news content in the related zone… BUT every result is from priority channels. Not one independent creator is there. The related videos are 100% sanitized.
Now let’s search for something for which no priority content can be expected; a subcultural type of content (soundboard pranks) that you won’t find on MSNBC or FOX. Why am I seeing 7 month old Ownage Pranks content? Why is there a Bloomberg video on vaccinations? What is this Jordan Lee Peterson video doing here? When I look at the list, I am still seeing priority swill, and the same live streams (the latter is at least semi-sensible) but none of the priority content has anything to do with what I am searching for.
How about music which is not mainstream? I decided to search for one of my favorite semi-obscure 1980s era darkwave songs. As you can see, I searched the title verbatim, but had to go fifteen spots down the search list. That’s right, the song itself was barely even on the first page results-wise. At least the related videos were mostly 80s music, even if not of the same basic subgenre. Acceptable results, finally! But actually finding the video would be a hassle if you didn’t want to have to do the scroll scroll.
Finally let’s search for yours truly. My channel and my latest uploads are, of course, first. But why are literally all of the related results below from Vice? I can think of dozens of independent creators which make similar content sometimes or often: Tim Pool, HA Goodman, Razorfist, Matt and Blonde… the list goes on. Not one single inclusion.
The reason for this discrepancy is obvious for those of us who have made content for any length of time; Youtube is deliberately abusing most of its users, especially if they delve into political or social commentary, to pave the way for sanitizing the platform, which will inevitably turn it into another on-demand service of no redeeming value. This is why I wisely began making Bitchute exclusives in 2019 and more recently, new-tech exclusives cross platform on Odysee, Bitchute, and Rumble.
Also the manipulation is even more stunning if you use youtube without signing in. You seriously might as well be watching cable tv at that point
And don’t forget the censoring of comments sections......even if you manage to find what you what, you are not allowed to say what you want!
