Bidens Bad Day: A Good Day for the United States
Defeated on OSHA Mandate and an Attempted Soft Coup on the Same Day
Yesterday, Joe Biden (the asterisk-in-chief of the United States) suffered two crushing blows. He was forced to beg private businesses to mandate vaccination after being handed a humiliating and predictable defeat by the supreme court, and Joe Manchin and Kirsten Sinema separately confirmed that they have no intent on undoing the Senate filibuster, a move which would have let Democrats stage a hostile takeover of the US election system, ensuring a permanent one-ideology system with no ability to change. The latter is prefaced on their terror as populist Republicans displace neoconservatives at the local and state level, ushered on by Steve Bannon and others. Sane individuals regard the removal of war happy corporate crooks from the GOP as a good thing. Neocons losing their jobs, and their long-time neoliberal friends, call it evil and despicable (because it means they are losing power.)
The OSHA vaccine mandate would have put millions of citizens out of work and signaled the end of any pretense of constraint on the bureaucracy. Biden is reeling from this loss (and now pivoting to other issues of greatly decreased import) and his loss is our win- the already fragile economy would have tumbled if SCOTUS had allowed the rule to take effect.
Since the "voting rights" bill was about as appropriately named as "clean coal" or "antifascist action" it's great that there is now virtually no chance of it being passed. This "defending Democracy" schtick has fallen flat with independent voters, likely because pain in their wallets and endless COVID confusion walks the walk of societal disruption, while claims of insurrections (which never happened) and Russian election interference (ditto) merely talk the talk.
Now some Democrats are pushing to pack the Supreme Court with more justices (which is doomed to fail if it ever even comes up for a vote.) Showing they have learned nothing in the last year.
What we have begun to see in the last year is that any time Biden loses, America wins. This sadly won't be the last time in which his administration complains about election integrity, human rights, basic diplomacy, or economic common sense, but it could indeed signal the end of his near-lame-duck administration to do any real damage to the Republic.
