Unprecedented Persecution Under the Biden Administration
And the Complacency of the Legacy Media
When the Obama administration was implicated in a massive scandal involving the government spying on AP journalists, the year was 2013 and Obama had been in office for some time. Those were simpler days; at the outset of his first term, Obama had fixated predominantly on economic issues (for better or worse) and was still saying that he intended to close Guantanamo Bay's detention facility. Indeed, at times, towards the end of his first term, there was a boring sense of disinterest and malaise- not one of criminality, scandal, or fear- pervading many peoples' minds. I know it did mine, as a college student at the time predominantly watching the BBC and RT for my news. By 2011 or so I recognized Obama had little interest in fulfilling the promises that led to me voting for him, but I didn't yet get the sense that he was a particularly malevolent president.
Fast forward to 2021. Obamas highest acolyte- Joseph Biden, his then vice president in those bygone days of the early 2010s- has barely passed the hurdle of his first one hundred days in office, and is already facing three monumental scandals solely related to breaches of civil rights. It wasn't enough that the lawyer for former president Trump was raided by the feds (and the entire lamestream media then had to backtrack its initial claims that he had been warned in 2019, long before, about being targeted by a Russian disinformation campaign that nobody has yet proven even existed.) It wasn't enough that Biden is now openly musing about outsourcing spying on US citizens to private firms, a de facto bypassing of the 4th amendments protections for American citizens. Now, we find, according to OAN, that a perfectly legal (if possibly doomed) audit of Arizona election ballots is being directly interfered with by Bidens Department of Justice. That states predominantly run their elections and that this presumably violates at least the intent of the tenth amendment is likely to be drowned out in the usual pabulum of strictly partisan rhetoric. That's too bad- that kind of us-and-them rhetoric, literally promoted by both the DNC and RNC, prevents any meaningful reform much of the time; perhaps it is our greatest flaw as a nation that we engage in such low level discourse.
Much like Obama and his DOJ featuring Eric Holder (best known for overseeing the transfer of automatic weapons to drug cartels) shrugged the issue of such scandals off because no mainstream networks kept up any real pressure on them, and much like they invoked the concept of "striking balance" between the rights of the press and the perceived "needs" of the federal government, it is likely that not a single member of the Biden administration will face significant scrutiny for actions which show that it may be the most tyrannical and liberty-averse administration in modern US history. Indeed, some Democrats now openly call for more censorship, at a time when billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey- high ranking political donors- are already looking for any excuse to hammer their competitors, secure and happy knowing their monopolies are guaranteed by differential enforcement of virtually every law and tax that would apply to them.
The "press" has stopped conducting journalism and has now devolved into a bunch of bobbleheads which refuse to follow through on the rare occasion they ask propaganda minister Jen Psaki a question that deviates from the strictly softballed. Partly, this is a self inflicted situation; the corporate press painted itself into a corner by setting up Trump as a one dimensional villain whose every word and act was a demented type of authoritarianism- against that backdrop, with a population consistently arranged into false dichotomies (like left and right, etc) it is impossible for them to call out Bidens persecution of dissidents without looking for all the world like they support his "opposite"... an opposite which they formerly labeled fascism.
And just like that, Styx did more Journalism in one article than CNN has done since...well...forever.
Freedom clanks.
